Corporate Governance: Flexibility is the essence

The Report adopted today on a corporate governance framework for European companies contains crucial issues about how the future of listed corporations will look.

Corporate governance should strengthen companies. Shareholders' involvement in the company's decision-making process should be stimulated. Behaviour towards risk management should be approved by the Board of Directors and publicly presented.

Sebastian Bodu MEP declared: "We are expecting the European Commission to consider the point of view expressed here today and include it in a European Code of Conduct. This should contain a set of tools that have a common denominator in all the Member States. In addition, new provisions can also be added according to national specificities."

"The ultimate goal of corporate governance is to preserve the strength of our businesses, reinforce their status as major global players and at the same time, to ensure their competitiveness in order to obtain profits, wages and create new jobs", said Sebastian Bodu MEP.
