EPP Group conference in Poland on the contribution of Jews to European culture and values

What was the role of Jews in shaping European culture and European values? What values, important for European integration, were brought by European Jewish communities? How has Europe benefited from having Jewish communities? What could Europe have lost if it hadn’t had them? These issues will be discussed within the framework of the first international conference of its kind in Poland ‘From cultural diversity to common values: contribution of Jews to European culture and values’, organised by the EPP Group on Monday 22 June at the POLIN Museum of History of Polish Jews in Warsaw.

The aim of the conference is to analyse how the potential of a common culture and values can be used to create a safe and strong Europe that is free of xenophobia and extremism. The speakers who will be present at the conference are distinguished experts representing various European countries. The opening remarks will be given by the Chairman of the EPP Group, Manfred Weber MEP, and the Director of the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews, Dariusz Stola.

Among invited panellists are: Vice-Chairwoman of the EPP Group, Sandra Kalniete MEP, Vice-Chairman of the Knesset and Chairman of the Parliamentary Group of Israeli-Polish Friendship, Yehiel Hilik Bar, Chairman of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Philosophy at the University of Warsaw, Professor Stanisław Krajewski, Director of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Israel, Dr Michael Borchard, Director of the Centre for the Study of European Politics and Society, Dr Sharon Pardo, President of the Stefan Batory Foundation, Professor Aleksander Smolar, Ambassador Alvaro Albacete, Gazeta Wyborcza journalist and member of the European Council on Foreign Relations, Konstanty Gebert, and Members of the European Parliament Róża von Thun und Hohenstein and Rosa Estaràs Ferragut.
