Joanna Jarecka Gomez was appointed Deputy Secretary-General of the EPP Group in 2014. As Director of the External Policies-Regions Directorate, she holds overall responsibility for EU regional external policy: enlargement countries, the Eastern Neighbourhood and Mediterranean Policy. She was Head of the EPP Group's International Relations Service since 2010 after having served as Head of the Interparliamentary Delegations Unit for three years and previously as adviser in the Parliamentary Work Service, responsible for the Foreign Affairs Committee.
Joanna previously worked as an administrator in the Secretariat of the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee where she covered, in particular, the process of EU enlargement involving a number of central and eastern European countries as well as Turkey.
Before joining the European Parliament, she worked for the UN and the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna.
Joanna Jarecka Gomez, born in Krakow (Poland), graduated from the Faculty of Romanic Philology at the Jagellonian University in Krakow and pursued her studies in Vienna (Philosophy) and in Brussels (Political Sciences) where she obtained a Masters in International Politics.
