Lithuania. 1972 – Degree in biophysics from Kaunas Medical Institute. 1972-1990 – research on computer application in cardio surgery and neurosurgery. 1988-1990 - Chairman of the Political Commission of the Sąjūdis. 1990 – 1992 Member of the Supreme Council - Reconstituent Seimas. 1992 – 2004 Member of the Seimas. 1990 - 1992 - Foreign Minister of the First Government of the re-established independent Republic of Lithuania. 1996 - 2000 Foreign Minister of the Government. 1995 - 1999 Chairman of the Lithuanian Christian Democratic Party. 2004 – 2008 Ambassador at the Holy See. MEP since 2009.
