Associate Professor Alexander Yordanov PhD is a Bulgarian politician, diplomat and literary critic. He was born in 1952 in Varna, Bulgaria. He started his career as an Associate Professor at the Literature Institute of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in 1978 and remained there until 2019.
In the period 1990-1991, he was a Member of the Grand National Assembly. Then he became Chair of the Union of the Democratic Forces (UDF) parliamentary group in the 36th National Assembly (1991-1992). From 1991 to 1994, he was Head of the Foreign Policy Committee in the 36th National Assembly. From 1992 to 1994, he was Chair of the 36th National Assembly. Then between 1994 and 1998, he was an MP in the 36th, 37th and 38th National Assemblies in the parliamentary group of the UDF. In the period 2001-2005 he was Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador in the Republic of Poland (1998-2001), Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia (1999-2001) and in the FYROM.
With regard to his academic and journalistic background, as well as his period at the Literature Institute of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, he was also Head of the Social and Humanitarian Sciences Department and Associate Professor in European Values and Culture at the European Polytechnic University (2010-2015), Executive Coordinator of the scientific project ‘European values in the Bulgarian and Macedonian literature of the 20th Century’ (2014-2017), Editor-in-Chief of the weekly newspaper on politics and culture ’21 Century’ (1990-1998) as well as Editor-in-Chief of the newspaper on politics & society ’Democracy’ (2013).
Mr Yordanov is also the author of numerous scientific and political books.
