Listening to childhood cancer survivors to better meet their needs

Having survived leukemia as a child, Tiago Costa, from Portugal, knows the anguish and risks a family can face in the battle and in the aftermath. That's why he joined a Europe-wide survivors’ network, CCIE, and supports the EU's Beating Cancer Plan supported by the EPP Group. 

He welcomes the plan's focus on childhood cancer, which he hopes will help patients, their families and caregivers in the fight. But also in assisting them in follow-up testing and socio-economic support such as the Right to be Forgotten as a former cancer patient in order to avoid the stigma that can make it difficult to find employment, obtain insurance or financing.
