We reject renationalisation of CAP

“The new CAP must set itself ambitious targets”, says EPP Group MEP Herbert Dorfmann, draftsman of the Parliament’s Report on the Future of Food and Farming.

“Increased subsidiarity is welcome as it could give more flexibility to the benefit of farmers. It could also help cut excessive bureaucracy, a goal the EPP Group has worked long for. However, at the same time we must strictly reject the renationalisation of the CAP.”

"The new post-2020 CAP must guarantee that European food production is sufficient and safe, that it protects European farmers' competitiveness on international markets and also safeguards against market fluctuations such as price volatility and other unpredictable market crises", underlined Dorfmann.

"As we are in the middle of rapid technological changes, European policy must facilitate our agricultural production to adapt to these changes and move towards new digital innovations."

"European agriculture is based on family farming and to maintain this, the next CAP must support the new generations of farmers giving them a solid prospect for the future. We must also keep an eye out for the disadvantaged mountainous, northern and ultra-peripheral areas."

The EPP Group will host a hearing on the Future of Food and Farming today, 11 April, starting at 15.00 hrs in the European Parliament (room JAN2Q2). The hearing will be chaired by Albert Deß MEP, the EPP Group Spokesman in the EP’s Agriculture and Rural Development Committee. The speakers, along with Mr Dorfmann, include Phil Hogan, the European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development.
