“The EPP Group draws its strength from its grassroots. Local, regional and National politicians are the fuel that drives us. We have to work closely together", said Vangelis Meimarakis, Vice-President of the EPP Group, chairing today the first joint meeting of this mandate with National and European EPP Parliamentarians in Brussels.

MEPs and MPs are debating the long-term EU Budget and Brexit. "As we prepare for the new mandate, National Parliamentarians are absolutely fundamental to help us to reach our goals. We can create greener jobs and achieve a social, sustainable economy only with the help and guidance from our National Members of Parliament", Meimarakis explained.

The EPP Group wants the next long-term EU Budget to be at 1.3 percent of the EU's economic performance. It furthermore calls for new 'own resources', which are new direct revenues for the EU Budget which do not come from EU Member States’ budgets.

The National Parliamentarians are also discussing the challenges and implications of Brexit with the EU's Chief Negotiator Michel Barnier.
