EPP Group Chairman Manfred Weber made an appeal today to the Slovenian Government to designate an experienced woman as candidate for the European Commission in replacement of Alenka Bratušek, who received a negative evaluation from the European Parliament yesterday.

"The EPP Group will only support a woman candidate with experience", Mr Weber said. "The list of the Slovenian Government last summer included, for example, Tanja Fajon MEP. She would match this request perfectly", he added.

“In the interest of European citizens, we need a strong European Commission to start working as soon as possible so we are ready to collaborate with the Slovenian Government and political parties on proposals to avoid a second failure”, he concluded.
