“Mariya Gabriel made a strong impression at this evening’s hearing and is 100 percent ready to take on the role as European Commissioner for Innovation and Youth. I am particularly pleased that she underlined the strong connection between education, research and innovation”, said Christian Ehler MEP, EPP Group Spokesman on Industry, Research and Energy in the European Parliament.

“For the EPP Group, a boost in EU research under the Horizon Europe Programme is of vital importance, not least in view of our goal of reaching 3 percent of GDP spending on public and private research.

“Therefore we salute her for staying firm in fighting for the budget of Horizon Europe and for underlining that research and innovation will be equally important in her portfolio", said Christian Ehler.

The EPP Group Spokeswoman for Culture and Education, Michaela Šojdrová MEP, said: “Mariya Gabriel has adhered to all EPP Group educational and cultural priorities: the tripling of the budget for Erasmus+, support for European teachers and sufficient funding of the European cultural industry.”

“These clear commitments and our common understanding that education and culture is de facto one of the headlines of her portfolio made me certain that she will be a great Commissioner again. She has the EPP Group’s vote!”
