Commission shouldn't hesitate with infringement procedures in Single Market

“We ask the European Commission not to hesitate to launch infringement procedures against those Member States who do not implement the Single Market rules. The EU has to send a clear message that if we want to complete the Single Market, we cannot accept Member States trying to dodge common rules“, said Andreas Schwab MEP, EPP Group Spokesman in the Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee, after today’s adoption of the European Parliament’s Resolution on the Single Market Package.

“Member States should not hinder the European Single Market with national rules that go against it”, he said, calling for responsibility of the Member States as well as of the European Commission.

The EPP Group stands firmly for less bureaucracy. “The reason that Europe is doing so well is that we have one set of rules, instead of twenty-eight diverging ones. We need to resist fragmentation within the EU borders the same way that we are resisting protectionism outside the EU”, Schwab continued.

In the Resolution adopted today, Members of the European Parliament wanted a better enforcement of European law. “We need renewed commitment for the Single Market, the basis of Europe’s economic success and the cornerstone of European integration“, he said.

The EPP Group wants to bring the deepening of the Single Market back to the top of the political agenda. We are convinced that a level playing field is key, with the same rules for all players in all Member States.

“Over 500 million Europeans and over 21 million SMEs deserve it.”

The Resolution adopted today sums up the European Parliament's position on the Single Market Package and calls on the Council to identify common priorities for action.
