Clear rules for supply of gas - also from outside EU

“The agreement on the Gas Directive gives us legal clarity for operating gas pipelines inside the EU and from non-EU countries. All pipelines, existing and new, including the Nord Stream 2, will be covered by the new rules”, said Jerzy Buzek MEP, EPP Group Spokesman, after the agreement with the Council on common rules for the internal market in natural gas.

Far too often, gas supply has been used as a political weapon. Even if we cannot ‘disarm’ the impure intentions of others, we have now achieved legal clarity with this agreement.

“We can finally say that all EU gas suppliers have to follow EU law, which has always been the main goal of the European Parliament. The deal reached last night completes the Energy Union and makes our citizens and industry more resilient to energy threats”, Jerzy Buzek concluded.
