Protecting animals in transport
Healthy, well-treated animals are the core of European food security that the EPP Group is protecting. We know that the well-being of animals is also dear to European farmers and serves the consumers well.
Recent experience has revealed that the live animal transport sector has faced several problems due to either the absence or the disobeying of existing regulations. The ANIT Committee will investigate these alleged violations in the application of EU law on the protection of animals during transport and related operations within and outside the EU.
We fully support this work and thus defend the interests of livestock farmers by protecting their entrepreneurships and guaranteeing high European standards of animal protection during transport within and outside our borders. We are convinced that reinforcing the current regulations and ensuring the correct implementation will solve the issues and find constructive solutions for the better functioning of this sector.
