Partit Nazzjonalista Members of Parliament have called on Prime Minister Robert Abela to walk the talk and take action on the never-ending list of corruption cases that took place under Joseph Muscat’s administration, as well as to ensure that justice is truly served in the case of the assassination of investigative journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia and the stories she was killed for. The PN delegation met with PM Abela during a meeting in the European Parliament.

Roberta Metsola, Head of the PN Delegation and David Casa, Quaestor of the European Parliament, met Prime Minister Robert Abela in Brussels. During the meeting, the Partit Nazzjonalista MEPs made it clear that concrete and tough decisions had to be taken immediately.

The MEPs said “Robert Abela was elected as a new Prime Minister in an abnormal situation, whereby Joseph Muscat was left with no option but to resign because of his office’s alleged involvement in the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia. The new days of Robert Abela in office should not be business as usual, but he should ensure that all the wrong decisions taken by his predecessor are not only amended, but also ensure that all those involved in wrongdoing are brought to justice.”

David Casa said: “If Robert Abela wants to be taken seriously there are clear and long overdue actions that he must take:

1.            Politicians involved in corruption and money laundering must be brought to justice. These include Keith Schembri and Konrad Mizzi as well as Joseph Muscat.

2.            Corrupt deals must be stopped, including the Powerstation deal, the hospital privatisation deal as well as the sale of passport scheme.

3.            Individuals holding public office that have protected corrupt politicians to the detriment of the Maltese public should be removed and investigated. These include the Attorney General as well Minister of Finance Edward Scicluna, who is under a criminal investigation as well former police commissioner Lawrence Cutajar.

Only when these necessary actions take place can we truly start to rebuild Malta’s reputation”.

Roberta Metsola said that the delegation “was ready to continue to do whatever is necessary to show that the disgraceful actions of Joseph Muscat, Keith Schembri and Konrad Mizzi are not representative of the people of Malta and Gozo. There is enough evidence and sworn testimony for law enforcement to take action, even in its current state. The only way that any European or international institution will ever believe that the Government is able to reform, is if the criminal and the corrupt are held to account and serious prosecutions take place. Anything short of that will only be window dressing. We have to be capable as a country to hold criminals to account, it is sadly that simple. Questions remained on Joseph Muscat’s trips abroad in the dying moments of his premiership, particularly those fateful few hours in Dubai and Konrad Mizzi’s attempted nomination to the OSCE.”
