“We must use every tool at our disposal to combat COVID-19” – David Casa MEP
“Democracy cannot be suspended. We must work harder than ever before to make sure that we provide an effective and timely response to this crisis. As member of the Euopean Parliament’s Bureau, I am committed to finding ways to ensure that our work can continue at full pace while taking the necessary measures to protect MEPs, staff and constituents.” As European Parliament Quaestor, David Casa MEP forms part of the European Parliament’s Bureau. Mr Casa stated: “We have already voted on a number of urgent measures to allocate funds to the member states to be able to combat COVID-19 and to increase the efficacy of existing EU instruments so that they can be used in the response. We have also suspended the use-it-or-lose-it rule for airlines to end ghost flights”. David Casa is the European Parliament’s lead negotiator on the ESF+ (European Social Fund), the European Union’s main financial instrument to strengthen Europe’s social dimension that puts the principles of the European Pillar of Social Rights into practice. “We have made available unspent ESF resources for this financial period, providing much needed support to the member states. But we must also do everything possible to ensure that the eventual ESF+ for the next financial period that will come into force next year is equipped to address this new reality and to ensure that funds will continue to flow efficiently”, stated Casa.
