Member of the European Parliament for Malta and Gozo, Roberta Metsola has won the election to become the EPP Group's nominee for first Vice-President of the European Parliament.

MEP Metsola, the Head of the PN Delegation in the European Parliament, won the EPP vote to decide on their nominee, held last night with 65% of the vote. A vote between all MEPs in the European Parliament to confirm the position will be held in November.

Should MEP Metsola be confirmed as first Vice-President, she would occupy the second most senior position in the European Parliament after the President.

In a statement MEP Metsola said “as someone coming from Malta and Gozo, this is a big moment for me, for Malta and for the Partit Nazzjonalista. I will work hard to continue to push forward the issues that matter most to people’s everyday lives and work to get the European decision-making process closer to the people, it affects the most. It is an honour and a privilege to have been nominated and I will strive to repay people’s faith in me.”
