Protecting employees from cancer-causing substances is a priority - David Casa
During a plenary debate in Strasbourg, Partit Nazzjonalista’s Head of Delegation in the European Parliament David Casa stated: “The health and the well-being of our citizens will always be a priority for the European Parliament. Preventing employees from being exposed to substances that could negatively impact their heath is fundamental.
David Casa, EPP’s Coordinator on Employment and Social Affairs, praised the outcome of negotiations on rules on carcinogens in the workplace. He stated: “Occupational deaths from cancer related illnesses are significant. These occurrences are a major concern that we must keep well within our focus. Ensuring adequate protection for workers can only be achieved by continuously reviewing applicable legislation such as this Directive”.
Through the latest revision of the Directive the European Parliament was successful in establishing new limit values for 5 additional carcinogens. Casa stated: “We have managed to reduce the level of exposure of workers. We are also finding ways to eliminate harmful substances and when possible have them replaced with harmless alternatives. Every life counts and all workers in the European Union have a right to adequate protection”.
The vote will take place later on today.
