Sorin Moisă, 41, has been a Member of the European Parliament since 2014 serving in the International Trade Committee and as a Member of the Delegation for Relations with the United States of America. Apart from trade, his interests include the impact of the digital revolution on society and politics, EU economy and politics, fighting populism, preserving liberal democracy and strong trans-Atlantic ties.
Before being an MEP, Sorin Moisă served as Deputy Chief of Staff to the then European Commissioner for Agriculture Dacian Cioloş, being heavily involved in the latest reform of the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy. During the crucial five years before Romania’s accession to the EU in 2007, he worked as a political adviser to the European Commission Delegation in Bucharest. He began his career as a journalist.
An economist by profession, Sorin Moisă has a Doctorate in International Relations from Oxford University with a thesis focusing on the respective contributions of EU and domestic elites to the various successes and failures of democratic transformation in Central and Eastern Europe, notably Romania, during the EU’s enlargement process.
