Faculty of Medicine, University of Athens, specialisation in Neurology and Psychiatry. 1974: Founding member of ONNED (Youth of Nea Demokratia). 1984-1990: MEP, 1989: Head of the EP Delegation of Nea Demokratia and member of the EPP Political Bureau. 4/1990-8/1991: Minister of Health, Welfare and Social Security. 11/92-10/93, 1994-1996, International Secretary of ND. 1992, Vice-president of EUCD. 1992-2004 National Coordinator at the European Commission Against Drugs. 1993-1996, Hellenic Parliament, re-elected in 1996. 1997-1998, Secretary for International and European Affairs of ND. Oct 1998-March 2000 Member of the Executive Committee of ND. June 1999-Sep 2000 MEP, Head of the ND Delegation. Member of the European Convention on the Future of Europe, representing the Hellenic Parliament. March 2004 - Sept. 2007.
