BIO

Benoît Lutgen, born in Bastogne in 1970, is a Member of the Democratic Humanist Center (cdH) of which he was President from 2011 to 2019. He was also a Walloon Minister of Public Works, Agriculture, Tourism, Rurality, Nature, Forestry and Heritage.

In 1997, Mr Lutgen worked in communications as a freelancer. He was the coordinator of the election campaign of the Christian Social Party (PSC) in the province of Luxembourg in the years 1998-1999, he became Secretary General of the PSC in 2001. He took part in the transformation of the PSC (which became the cdH in 2002).

In 2003, he ran for the first time, in the federal elections.

The following year, after the regional and European elections, he became Walloon Minister of Agriculture, Rural Affairs, Environment and Tourism. Following the regional elections in June 2009, he remained Walloon Minister responsible for Equipment, Agriculture, Rural Affairs, Heritage and Nature Conservation.

In 2011, he became the President of the cdH. Benoît Lutgen then left his post as Minister.

Following the 2012 municipal elections, he became Mayor of Bastogne and was re-elected in 2018.
