Odbor za zaposlovanje in socialne zadeve je pristojen za politiko zaposlovanja in vse vidike socialne politike, kot so delovni pogoji, socialna varnost in socialna zaščita. Ukvarja se tudi z vprašanji, kot so ukrepi zdravstvenega varstva in varnosti pri delu, politika poklicnega usposabljanja, vključno s poklicnimi kvalifikacijami, prosto gibanje delavcev in upokojencev in vse oblike diskriminacije na delovnem mestu in trgu dela, razen diskriminacije na podlagi spola, saj ta sodi med pristojnosti Odbora za pravice žensk.
