Serbia: Joseph Daul, Chairman of the EPP-ED Group, welcomes vote in favour of Europe

DAUL, JosephOn behalf of the EPP-ED Group in the European Parliament, Joseph Daul MEP has today welcomed the election results in Serbia of 11 May 2008 as a "vote in favour of Europe", with a clear victory for the party of President Boris Tadić.

The Chairman of the largest and most influential group in the European Parliament also expressed his satisfaction with the peaceful execution of these legislative elections as well as his hope that this vote will be quickly followed by the formation of a stable and resolutely pro-European government.

Joseph Daul now expects that after the signature of the association agreement between the European Union and Belgrade, the victory of President Tadić's party will again reinforce the pro-integration policy of Serbia, leading towards the country's candidate status: "Our political family will do its utmost to achieve this goal", concluded Daul.
