"If we want to strengthen Europe and protect it in the current context of international tensions, it is crucial to take new steps towards more stability. Europe needs to be able to stand on its own two feet. This also applies to economic and monetary policy. We welcome the document that the European Commission has put on the table today", said Manfred Weber MEP, Chairman of the EPP Group in the European Parliament.

"The single currency is a major success which is making the lives of European citizens and companies simpler every day. Growth is back and Europe is getting economically stronger. We need to stress this. It is also clear that to strengthen the Eurozone, Member States should assume their responsibilities and implement bold structural reforms. This must be the first step before we talk about deepening the Eurozone", Manfred Weber underlined.

"On the long-term evolution, an in-depth discussion is needed about how the Eurozone should look over the coming years. Today's proposals are a good basis for discussion", Weber concluded.
