Peterle/Bogovič o strategiji širitve EU na Zahodni Balkan

Strasbourg, 6. februar 2018 (ELS) - Evropski poslanci danes na plenarnem zasedanju v Strasbourgu razpravljajo o strategiji širitve EU na Zahodni Balkan. Z novo strategijo, ki jo je Evropska komisija predstavila danes, Unija potrjuje, da obstaja možnost pridružitve Evropski uniji za vseh šest držav na Zahodnem Balkanu. V strategiji omejena letnica 2025, kot perspektiva za prihodnje širitve, velja za Črno goro, Srbijo, Makedonijo, Albanijo, BiH in Kosovo. Najbolje na poti v EU sta Črna gora in Srbija.

Evropski poslanec Lojze Peterle (NSi/ELS), predsednik delegacije za EU in nekdanjo jugoslovansko republiko Makedonijo, prenovljeno strategijo, katere ključen poudarek je uvedba pravne države in ureditev bilateralnih zadev, pozdravlja. "Gre za jasen politični signal in odločenost Evropske zveze, da postopoma sprejme vse države, ki bodo izpolnile pogoje", dodaja. Peterle izpostavlja željo, da bi "ta strateški moment izkoristili tudi Grčija in Makedonija  za ureditev odnosov v evropskem in dobrososedskem duhu."

Evropski poslanec Franc Bogovič (SLS/ELS), član delegacije pri pridružitvenem parlamentarnem odboru EU-Srbija, meni: "Dobro je, da je Evropska komisija zelo jasno povedala, da podpira širitev EU na Zahodni Balkan, seveda ob izpolnjevanju kriterijev ter predhodni ureditvi vseh mejnih vprašanj. Po mojem mnenju je to tudi edino zagotovilo za mir, stabilnost in gospodarski razvoj v tej regiji. Srbija in Črna gora bi tako lahko izpolnili pogoje za EU do leta 2025. Želim si čim hitrejšega napredka tudi ostalih držav kandidatk, saj gre za naše tradicionalne trgovinske partnerje, njihov napredek in približevanje EU pa pomeni tudi ogromno priložnosti za slovensko gospodarstvo."
