Con 58 voti a favore, 12 contrari e 4 astensioni, la Commissione per i diritti della donna e l'uguaglianza di genere (FEMM) ha approvato ieri al Parlamento Europeo il Progetto di Relazione relativo alla Convenzione del Consiglio d'Europa sulla prevenzione e la lotta alla violenza contro le donne e alla violenza domestica. 

Lo rende noto l’onorevole Barbara Matera (FI), Europarlamentare del PPE, vice presidente della Commissione FEMM.

“Come noto, - ricorda l’onorevole Matera – il Progetto, meglio conosciuto come Convenzione di Istanbul, dal nome della città turca nella quale la stessa fu ufficialmente presentata, era stata approvata dal Comitato dei Ministri del Consiglio d'Europa il 7 aprile 2011 ed aperta alla firma l'11 maggio 2011”.

“Adesso, finalmente, l’Unione Europea fa un importante passo avanti verso la definitiva approvazione di uno strumento che, oltre agli obiettivi dichiarati, mira anche a favorire la protezione delle vittime e ad impedire l'impunità dei colpevoli”.
