Born in 1953. Weimar (Thuringia). Degree and doctorate in architecture. Architect. Joined CDU in 1985. Member of the Volkskammer in 1990. Member of department at Thuringia’s regional representation to the federal government. Since 2003, regional Chairman of the European Movement Thuringia. 1995-2007, regional Chairman of the Paneuropean Union (PEU); since 2007 Honorary Chairman of the PEU. Vice-Chairman of the regional CDU Weimar. Since 2004 member of the local council of Taubach. 1991-1994, Member of the European Parliament with observer status. Since 2006 Board member of European Transport & Safety Council (ETSC). MEP since 1994.
