Nodarbinātības un sociālo lietu komiteja ir atbildīga par nodarbinātības politiku un visiem sociālās politikas aspektiem, tādiem kā darba apstākļi, sociālā nodrošināšana un sociālā aizsardzība. Tā risina arī tādus jautājumus kā pasākumi saistībā ar veselības aizsardzību un drošību darba vietā, arodmācības politika, tostarp profesionālās kvalifikācijas celšana, darba ņēmēju un pensionāru brīva pārvietošanās, kā arī jautājumus saistībā ar visa veida diskriminācija darba vietā un darba tirgū, atskaitot diskrimināciju saistībā ar dzimumu, jo šis jautājums ir Sieviešu tiesību un dzimumu līdztiesības komitejas kompetencē.
