Legislative Agenda > IntroductionElected European Politicians have the duty to translate into concrete actions the concerns of the European citizens. From my point of view it is crucial to ensure that European policies have to be elaborated for the profit of the day by day citizens' life where the EU can deliver real added value. It is our deep conviction and that is why the EPP Group has to perform each year the process aimed at maximising its influence on the Commission Work Programme. That is the key annual instrument on which is based the legislative work of the European Parliament. That is our main opportunity and also our main responsibility to determine how we want to respond to real preoccupations of people. For decades the European Union ensures freedom corresponding to a corner stone of our civilisation concern. We can find responses to terrorism and stop other threats which put in danger rules of law. We can challenge to achieve our energy supply and security and in the same time combat climate change. We can improve prosperity and social equity and enhance economic competitiveness and promote innovation. Europe has to remain the better place to live and the better work place in the world. For a successful Europe, we need solid institutions. We needed the Lisbon Treaty for improving transparency, democracy, and capacity of reaction. But more than over we need the support and the confidence of our European citizens. For this, European action can and must generate added value. In accordance the subsidiarity principle, the European Union has to be efficient and has to focus on the issues where it is more than important for our citizens to get European impetus and to achieve concrete results. The EPP Group keeps always in mind that improving the day-by-day life of people is on top priority. That is the way we want each year to look at the Commission Work Programme. József Szájer MEP
