Visa-free travel: new suspension mechanism protects EU

The European Parliament will vote to review the visa suspension mechanism which can be applied to all visa-free travel agreements that the EU has with non-EU countries. The upgraded suspension mechanism will protect EU countries by making it easier for them to flag irregularities that justify a break with the visa agreement and a reintroduction of visa conditions. This law will facilitate the immediate consideration of visa-free travel for Georgians and Ukrainians.

Energy Union: affordable energy for all

The EPP Group has made affordable energy for all a main priority in the Energy Union. This will be the focal point when the European Commission goes to the Plenary to present the Winter Energy Union Package made public recently. The EU has high energy prices which hurt our businesses and competitiveness vis-à-vis other regions of the world. Europe needs jobs and growth. For the industry to invest and create new jobs, it needs certainty. In addition, energy efficiency would be the most cost-effective way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The increased target of 30 percent will help us achieve our commitments under the Paris Climate Agreement.

Better, faster and cheaper railway services in Europe

The European Parliament will have the final vote to conclude the 4th Railway Package. It is a major succes for the EPP Group and it will mark a new step towards better, faster and cheaper railway services in Europe. This legislation will achieve better value for money for the European taxpayer by introducing new competition and performance targets and making public tenders the norm rather than the exception. This package is good for citizens in Europe.

Stable prices for Europe's farmers

Europe's farmers are increasingly exposed to risks that are highly dependent on natural factors which are sometimes beyond their control, like climate conditions, plant and animal diseases. The European Parliament will vote on a Report by Angelique Delahaye MEP who put forward concrete solutions to fight price volatility in the agricultural sector such as developing better contracts between the agricultural sector’s actors (farmers, processors, distributors) and better promoting market transparency through European observatories and price indicators. "Volatility of agricultural product prices is one of the main factors behind the calamitous situation currently faced by many European farmers. Resolving the situation - in particular via the Common Agriculture Policy - is part of the EU’s mission", says Angelique Delahaye.

Stronger foreign and security policy for Europe

Stronger foreign and security policy for Europe

The EU is surrounded by serious foreign policy conflicts that have direct and serious consequences for the security and well-being of European citizens, whether in the form of terrorism, massive refugee flows or disinformation campaigns aimed at dividing our societies. The Report on the Implementation of the Common Foreign and Security Policy, to be voted on on Wednesday in Plenary, emphasises that the EU's Global Strategy and the EU's external actions can only work if they are based on the three pillars, defined as the three 'Ds': Defence, Development and Diplomacy. "The EU can only be a strong global player who is equal with other great powers when all Member States speak with one voice and act together in the framework of a strong EU foreign policy", says Elmar Brok MEP, Rapporteur and Chairman of the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee.

Supporting Ecuador's accession to the EU, Colombia and Peru Trade Agreement

MEPs are set to approve a Report that backs the accession of Ecuador to the Trade Agreement between the EU and its Member States, on the one part, and Colombia and Peru, on the other part. The EPP Group believes that the accession of Ecuador to the Trade Agreement should be a step forward in the alliance with important and fast-growing countries in a region that is turning more and more to Asia and the Pacific. The debate will take place on Tuesday.
