La commission de l'emploi et des affaires sociales est responsable de la politique de l'emploi et de tous les aspects de la politique sociale telles que les conditions de travail, la sécurité sociale et la protection sociale. Elle s'occupe également de questions telles que les mesures en matière de santé et de sécurité au travail, de politique de formation professionnelle, y compris les qualifications professionnelles, de la libre circulation des travailleurs et des retraités ainsi que de toutes les formes de discrimination au travail et sur le marché du travail, sauf celles fondées sur le genre étant données que ces dernières sont de la compétence de la commission des droits de la femme.
