Ses principales tâches consistent à s'occuper des relations financières, économiques et commerciales de l'Union avec les pays tiers et les organisations régionales, ce qui inclut l'avis conforme dans le cas des accords commerciaux, ainsi que des mesures techniques d'harmonisation ou de normalisation dans les domaines couverts par les instruments du droit international.
