La commission des affaires juridiques est responsable de l'interprétation et de l'application du droit européen et de la conformité des actes de l'Union européenne avec le droit primaire. Elle interprète aussi le droit international pour autant que l'Union européenne soit concernée. Parmi ses autres attributions, la commission adopte également des mesures relatives à la coopération judiciaire et administrative en matière civile et traite de la responsabilité environnementale et des sanctions à appliquer dans le contexte de la criminalité contre l'environnement.
