In an historic vote for Malta, earlier this afternoon the European Parliament has vastly supported Simon Busuttil’s nomination to serve on the 7 man committee overseeing the appointment of judges and advocates-general on the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg.
With a strong backing of over 83%, Simon Busuttil becomes the first Maltese individual to hold such a role – a fitting nomination for a Maltese politician and leader who has shown time and time again that his integrity and decision making is second to none. The members of the European Parliament have overwhelmingly recognized this and have whole heartedly backed his appointment for such a sensitive and crucial position.
As Head of Delegation of the Nationalist Party’s European Members of Parliament and together with my colleagues Roberta Metsola and Francis Zammit Dimech, we congratulate Simon Busuttil on this achievement as well as extend our appreciation to the 2 Labour MEPs who voted in favour of Simon Busuttil’s appointment. We augur this role will help restore Malta’s reputation in the European and global fora.
