Dr. Mukwege in Congo DRC

Following the decision taken by the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to prohibit the distribution of the film devoted to Dr Mukwege, the leaders of the four political groups in the European Parliament, Manfred Weber (EPP) Gianni Pittella (S&D), Guy Verhofstadt (ALDE) as well as Rebecca Harms and Philippe Lamberts (Greens), said:

"We strongly denounce the ban in the DRC of the film ‘The Man Who Mends Women - The Wrath of Hippocrates’ dedicated to Dr Mukwege and his admirable and exemplary work for victims of sexual violence.

We ask the Congolese authorities to reconsider their decision and to guarantee Dr Mukwege's safety. The European Parliament awarded the 2014 Sakharov Prize to Dr Mukwege and we will continue to support his fight and mobilise international attention on the humanitarian and security situation in the South Kivu region."
