Η Επιτροπή Απασχόλησης και Κοινωνικών Υποθέσεων είναι αρμόδια για την πολιτική απασχόλησης και όλες τις πτυχές της κοινωνικής πολιτικής, όπως συνθήκες εργασίας, κοινωνική ασφάλιση και κοινωνική προστασία. Επιπλέον, ασχολείται με θέματα όπως τα μέτρα υγείας και ασφαλείας στο χώρο εργασίας, την πολιτική στον τομέα της επαγγελματικής κατάρτισης, συμπεριλαμβανομένων των επαγγελματικών προσόντων, την ελεύθερη κυκλοφορία των εργαζομένων και των συνταξιούχων, και κάθε μορφή διάκρισης στον χώρο εργασίας και στην αγορά εργασίας, με εξαίρεση εκείνων που βασίζονται στο φύλο καθώς εμπίπτουν στις αρμοδιότητες της Επιτροπής Δικαιωμάτων των Γυναικών.
