Der Ausschuss für internationalen Handel ist für Angelegenheiten der gemeinsamen Handelspolitik der Union und ihre Außenwirtschaftsbeziehungen zuständig. Er kümmert sich hauptsächlich um die Finanz-, Wirtschafts- und Handelsbeziehungen der EU zu Drittstaaten und regionalen Organisationen, wozu auch die Zustimmung zu Handelsabkommen gehört, und um Maßnahmen zur technischen Harmonisierung oder Standardisierung in Bereichen, die durch internationale Rechtsinstrumente abgedeckt sind.
