Udvalget om Beskæftigelse og Sociale Anliggender er ansvarligt for beskæftigelsespolitikken og alle aspekter af socialpolitikken såsom arbejdsbetingelser, social sikring og social beskyttelse. Det dækker også emner som sundhed og sikkerhedsforanstaltninger på arbejdspladsen, erhvervsuddannelser, herunder erhvervsmæssige kvalifikationer, arbejdstageres og pensionisters frie bevægelighed og alle former for forskelsbehandling på arbejdspladsen og på arbejdsmarkedet, med undtagelse af forskelsbehandling på grund af køn, der hører ind under Udvalget om Kvinders Rettigheder og Ligestilling.
