EPP-ED Group's Political Strategy: values, prosperity, security and solidarity. Joseph Daul MEP, Chairman of the EPP-ED Group

Presenting the 'Décalogue' - a strategy document of the EPP-ED Group (Centre-Right) in the European Parliament - to partners of the Group and the media this evening at a 'European Evening' in Brussels, the Chairman Joseph Daul MEP is to underline that other than the daily activities of his 288 Members, the political work of the most influential group in the European Parliament concentrates on four major priorities: a Europe of values; a Europe of growth, a Europe of security, and a Europe of solidarity.

"All of us here this evening should be proud of the heritage of Europe's Founding Fathers, who showed great political courage. We must, at the same time, measure the positive impact of the reforms that we advocate each day to the advantage of our fellow Europeans. But we also have the great responsibility of asserting our values. We should have high principles. We should never hide our ideals."

Speaking alongside some of the main political players of the EPP-ED family, Hans-Gert Pöttering, President of the European Parliament, José Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission, and Wilfried Martens, President of the EPP, Joseph Daul will outline the four major themes of his Group's strategy document.

"Our Group, more than any other, stands up for values; freedom, responsibility and tolerance."

"Our Group, more than any other, believes in a prosperous economy to benefit the greatest number of people; a society which promotes the spirit of initiative and enterprise; a society which develops itself with future generations in mind; and a society which looks after its climate, guarantees sufficient resources and which adapts to demographic change."

"Our Group, more than any other, wants to guarantee safety for our citizens. Safety of individuals of course, but also energy security and food safety.

"Finally, our Group, more than any other, wants a Europe of solidarity. Solidarity between generations, solidarity between regions, and solidarity with the less fortunate of this world."
