20/02/2008EPP-ED Group expels Daniel Hannan MEP
The Members of the EPP-ED Group (centre-right) in the European Parliament decided on Tuesday evening, 19 February 2008, to expel Daniel Hannan MEP (Conservative, United Kingdom), according to their internal rules. Daniel Hannan made unacceptable remarks in the plenary session in Brussels of 31 January lst comparing the interpretation by the EP President of a Parliament Regulation to the German law of 1933 giving power to the Nazi regime.
As the Chairman of the Group, Joseph Daul MEP, announced immediately after Mr Hannan's remarks, the Group considered that such comments harm the reputation of the European Parliament as well as the EPP-ED Group, and they therefore acted accordingly.
