Romanian European elections: EPP-ED Group thrilled at its sister parties' success. Joint statement by Joseph Daul MEP, Chairman of the EPP-ED Group, and Wilfried Martens, President of the EPP Party



DAUL, JosephJoseph Daul MEP, Chairman of the EPP-ED Group in the European Parliament, and Wilfried Martens, President of the EPP Party, have welcomed the results of the first European elections in Romania and congratulated the Romanian people on their first European vote.

"These elections mark a watershed in relations between Bucharest and Brussels. Romania has a significant part to play in the development of the European Union. We, in the EPP-ED Group, are thrilled that we shall be working with Members of the highest calibre who can now raise Romania's voice at the centre of EU policy-making. We are coming together in Europe to promote the values of peace, freedom and prosperity, values that the people of Romania have fought for in recent history."

Accordingly, with the early results after the vote, the Group of the European People's Party and European Democrats remains the most important and influential Group in the European Parliament, including the new European Deputies from Romania, 11 from the Democratic Party and 2 from the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania. "We are delighted to welcome the new colleagues with whom we are confident we will work successfully", stressed Joseph Daul MEP and Wilfried Martens.
