The European Parliament has given the green light to the Lisbon Treaty on Wednesday 20th February on the basis of a report tabled by EPP-ED Spokesman in the Constitutional Affairs Committee, Íñigo Méndez de Vigo MEP. |

The report considers that the new treaty will substantially improve democracy in the EU, strengthen the roles of both the European Parliament and national parliaments, enhance the rights of European citizens and improve the effective functioning of the Union's institutions. |
