About
The Committee on Foreign Affairs is responsible for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) and the European Security and Defence Policy (ESDP). It also closely scrutinises issues concerning human rights in third countries. Its job is to strengthen the parliamentary dimension of the EU's political relations with third countries and to approve assistance programmes or international agreements. In the context of EU enlargement, the Committee follows the negotiating process and recommends assent to Accession Treaties. The committee is assisted by two subcommittees; human rights and security and defence.
